Lightning on the Mountain has an identity entirely it's own- a western-inspired collection of literary songs, which tell stories from Nix's own history as well as of the many unique characters he "may or may not have encountered" throughout his years on the road.

As a big fan of the Red Dirt music scene in Texas and Oklahoma, The Turnpike Troubaours quickly became a favorite of mine and multitudes of others. Then over a year ago they went on hiatus of unknown time or if they will ever be back. Kyle Nix was the fiddle player for the band and no one knew he could sing or write for that matter - but wow, here it is and it is magical! From the day this record was announced a few months ago, my anticipation has been running wild and the wait was worth it. Kyle has stepped up in a big way to fill the void for all us TT fans for some new music and he delivers an album that you'll have on repeat for a while.
