Janet Edwards is by far my favorite author, and I don't say that lightly. She is somehow able to make extraordinary stories and characters seem like normal people thrown into realistic, but nearly impossible situations, and somehow, this compilation of stories does so even more than previous works! I love how this is a collection of short stories told from different perspectives with distinct narrators in each, yet is completely cohesive and linear in its telling. I love when we get to hear about side characters and their experiences, and the way that she is able to pull in small details from previous stories and books gives a distinctly realistic and cohesive feel to the worlds she creates. Somehow her books, which are full of once in a lifetime happenstances, still feel like they could have happened to anyone, but that her characters just so happened to be the lucky (or unlucky) ones that day.
