White Tiger on Snow Mountain: Adventure Stories for Kids - Perfect for Bedtime Reading & Family Storytime

My title above refers to the title story but applies to the rest of them as well. The story, "White Tiger on Snow Mountain" floats your mind along with so many elegantly drawn visceral images you will forget where you are. I have highlighted nearly one third of it in order to re read and savor some of the many shimmering passages. It's difficult to describe the transporting experience of reading Gordon. But he accidentally, to me, describes the experience of reading his work in a brief elegant description of an experience during one of his acupuncture treatments in the title story. The passage is so keenly articulated as to be almost a palpable experience for the reader."The current came in waves, building and then receding. It was immensely pleasurable in that way a nap can sometimes be, when the constant little wakings, instead of disturbing, return us to the joy of sinking back to sleep. For a few minutes I forgot where I was." Priceless ! Gordon's trademark is generous helpings of hilarious, piercing, witty observations of the absurd encountered in daily life. For example his description of a faded stripper he sees in a seedy topless joint... "The other was brown skinned and composed of soft rolls, with deep creases between her thighs and ass, ass and belly, belly and upper belly, upper belly and breasts. Her purple nipples stood out like valves on overinflated tires". I laughed so hard throughout the story I was often in tears. Especially during the narrator's outrageous final sexual encounter leading to the conclusion. Then he delivers a sucker punch by immediately following it with a poignant conclusion so shimmeringly beautiful I wept tears of mingled joy and melancholy. The price of this book would be a steal if only for this story. This was my first read by Gordon. I am now proceeding to the links above of his other works to buy every one.
