My first pack of Tarot cards was given to me when I was 12 years old, and I remember thumbing through the cards and feeling the artistic mysticism that they possessed. Sadly, I found the book that came with it nebulous and confusing which kept me from being able to enjoy doing card readings. I remember burning incense on a table with my black piece of felt, and spreading out the cards to read them. My "victims" were usually my family, friends, or whomever I could con to do a reading and I flipped through the cards whimsically using the pictures as literal interpretations for "reading their future."I will never forget flipping over the fool card, and telling my Mother that she should be careful where she walks because she could die from falling off a cliff. Indeed, my artistic 12 year old interpretations were quite literal, and now looking back incredibly humorous.Over time I have purchased several books to learn how to read Tarot cards, and found them boring and at great length. I am studious, and am able to comprehend many things but the drive of using the cards vs. learning the cards caused an inhibitor for me, because I was too excited to use the cards to read the book. Now, here I am pushing *cough* 18 .. er... here I am 38 years old, and I still don't know the major and minor arcana. So introduce my deep dive into a Google mission, where I found a book called "Learn Tarot In A Day," and now I finally have a keen understanding in the many Tarot card sets that I have, and finally understand how to do a proper reading. The book breaks down the art of Tarot card reading in sections, which make it very easy for one to master. I was able to easily absorb the details outlined in the book, and didn't feel like it was talking down to me or over explaining everything. The book has four main categories, which helped me really grasp the concept of "reading Tarot."However, the book does it with six short stories that enabled me to better grasp reading the Tarot, over conventional methods which seemed to bore me. Ian Eshey writes:"I finally got it when I read somewhere that 22 Major Arcana cards put together tell a classic story about how a person matures through life. It finally dawned on me that since ancient times stories were used as a mechanism of memorizing information. I took my deck and wrote down 6 short stories that include all 78 cards, went through them several times with my cards in front of me - and that was it!What surprised me is that I immediately began to grasp natural progression of events around some card or situation, and stopped to interpret cards in a spread only by themselves. Without any additional effort I began to perform much much better and natural readings for myself and my friends ever since, just like that!"Learn Tarot - This explains what Tarot actually is, and how it is meant to be used, and goes over the basics - which I like to compare to an appetizer. I learned a lot from this section, and found myself breezing through the information without feeling overwhelmed. How To Read Tarot Cards - This helped me to understand the process of actual Tarot reading, and how to form a productive question. For instance, instead of just telling my Mother to avoid walking off cliffs when looking at the fool card, I could actually focus on real questions that I could answer using the cards - and really use my intuition to receive the answer instead of just interpreting the cards artwork. I also found that I could open myself up and trust my feelings when reading the cards, and become more spiritual than I had been in the past. It's strange, but during this time I felt more comfortable opening myself up to the mysticism of the Tarot.Tarot Card Meanings - The major and minor arcana, the representation of the four Tarot suits, and most importantly my ability to understand each individual card for the meanings. This section of the book was the most fun for me, because I was able to break out all of my Tarot decks, and found not only universal meanings but a new relationship with each of my cards artwork that I hadn't seen before that seemed to all mesh together under one universal formula. That was refreshing, because it meant that I was grasping the concepts between each card, and falling in love with each of my decks all over again!Tarot Spreads - What card layout do I use for reading the future? Would it be the same for reading cards for a love question? Amazingly enough, there are different spreads for different questions, and this section had a lot of examples that I found to be blissfully exciting! It took me back to that 12 year old me, sitting in front of my black felt with incense burning, pretending that I knew all. However now I was armed with some amazing layouts, and was able to practice some of the most beautiful "spreads" that really put the art into Tarot card reading. This book teaches you how to read all of the cards, learn about natural card progression (which really was eye opening for me), and also examined multiple spreads depending upon the question. The Author of the book, Ian Eshey, has done a superb job of literally teaching the Tarot from A to Z in one day.I highly recommend getting the book for yourself, and if you were ever interested in learning the art of Tarot, now is your chance!
